- Transportation systems which enable visits to take place. This involves different modes (air, sea, car (including taxis), bus, rail and even cycle and foot traffic).
- Accommodation for overnight visitors. This may involve provision for tents, caravans, campervans, bed and breakfast facilities, backpackers, hostels, motels, hotels and luxury lodges.
- Food and Beverage. Provision of retail shops, snack bars, cafes, restaurants, wine bars, pubs and clubs.
- Recreation and Entertainment. Provision for active sport and passive spectator facilities, cinemas, theatres, concert halls and casinos.
- Attractions. Provision for natural and man-made attractions, musuems and art galleries.
- Meetings and Conferences. Provision for small and informal gatherings to large and formal conventions
- Retail shopping and souvenirs
and, to serve all of these:
- The provision of adequate infrastructure:
- airports, cruise ship ports and ferry landings, rail and bus terminals, car parks,
- railways, roads, cycleways and footpaths;
- water, power and gas, telecommunications;
- sewage and stormwater drainage, waste collection and disposal;
- emergency facilities (eg. ambulance; doctors and hospitals; fire prevention, detection and fire fighters; police and crime prevention; border control - agriculture, customs and immigration);
- information and service providers.
