Regional Growth Strategies - Examples
- The Auckland Regional Growth Strategy 1999 (PDF 4.0 MB) sets a vision for how the region 's growth can be sustainably managed over the next 50 years. It aims to balance social, environmental and economic values to help ensure that Auckland in 2050 will be a good place to live and do business. The strategy provides useful material to help inform the RLTS and the future review of the RPS, and its effectiveness was evaluated by the ARC in 2007, see An Evaluation of the Auckland Regional Growth Strategy 1999 (PDF 3.8 MB).
- Proposed Change No. 2 - Growth Management to the Bay of Plenty Regional Policy Statement has been formulated to implement aspects of SmartGrowth, a 50-year strategy and implementation plan for the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region. SmartGrowth has also played a significant role in influencing the direction of the Regional Land Transport Strategy, one of the first to be prepared under the Land Transport Management Act.
- The proposed Wellington Regional Strategy considers a 50-year vision for the Greater Wellington region. In Canterbury the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy is being prepared to manage the predicted growth of the Greater Christchurch area. Organisations involved in developing the strategy include the Christchurch City Council (including Banks Peninsula), Selwyn and Waimakariri District Councils, Environment Canterbury (the Regional Council), Transit NZ and a cross-section of local leaders drawn from community, business and government agencies.
